The Nougat Tradition Comes to Solfarmers with Antiuxixona!

We are excited to announce the arrival of Antiuxixona, the prestigious turron manufacturer from Jijona and Alicante, to our website and physical store. But what makes Antiuxixona even more special is its fascinating history, which begins in 1863.

A legacy of flavor and tradition

The history of Antiuxixona dates back to 1863, when Vicente Sanchis Monerris and María Teresa Mira Brotóns began preparing turrón in the traditional way and selling it in the doorway of their home in Las Ramblas, Barcelona. Their passion and dedication quickly established them as masters of turrón.

Over time, the family grew and their six children followed in their parents' footsteps, dedicating themselves to the preparation and sale of nougat.

The Nougat Tradition in Spain: A Sweet Legacy

Nougat, or "turron" is one of the most iconic sweets of Spanish gastronomy, with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. This delicacy has its roots in the Arab influence that introduced the use of almonds and honey in the Iberian Peninsula. Over time, the recipe was perfected and became the nougat we know today.

Nougat Varieties
  • Alicante nougat: Known for its crunchy texture, it is made with toasted almonds, honey and sugar. Its preparation at high temperature results in a firm sweet that is cut into tablets.
  • Turrón de Jijona: This type has a softer and creamier texture, thanks to the mixture of ground almonds, honey and sugar. Its low temperature cooking process produces a nougat that crumbles easily.
Nougat in Spanish Culture

Nougat is more than just a sweet; it is a symbol of Spanish tradition and culture. Its presence in celebrations and gatherings reflects the importance of culinary traditions in everyday life. Moreover, the production of nougat combines artisanal techniques with modern innovations, guaranteeing its quality and adaptability to current tastes.

Turron continues to be a popular gift and a central element in Spanish gastronomy, representing a sweet legacy that endures through time.
